What is the Minix Neo U1?
In simple terms, the Minix Neo U1 is a media streaming box that runs on the Android operating system. Like most streaming boxes out there in the market, the Minix Neo U1 connects to your tv via an HDMI port.
Once connected, the Minix Neo U1 can turn any TV into a smart TV by loading its android operating system onto the TV. This also means that your TV will be able to use internet-related services such as streaming and live shows.
The Minix Neo U1 is not the only media box in the market. There are several others such as the Amazon firestick, Roku streaming stick plus, Nvidia shield, etc. the Minix Neo U1 is, however, one of the best devices out there and comes with lots of interesting features which makes it a worthwhile option especially if you want to access your IPTV subscription.
Specs of the Minix Neo U1
The Minix Neo U1 comes in the shape of a box with a black matte finish. The device runs on Android v.6 and comes with a 2GB RAM and a Quad-Core Cortex A53 64-bit Processor, integrated with a Penta Core Mali-450 GPU for faster processing and fluid performance as well better color and graphic rendering.
The device comes with a dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi which is one of the best in the streaming box market today and ensures the device detects and connects to your Wi-Fi connection easily. The dual-band option also ensures smooth streaming and faster downloads when you need it.
The Minix Neo U1 is one of the very first streaming boxes to come with sleep options. The sleep options allow you to put the device to sleep when you are not using it just as you would your laptop. This helps it to save power.
Most streaming devices produce ‘whining’ and ‘screeching’ sounds when in operation and tend to become very hot with continued use. The Minix Neo U1 is one of the very few exceptions. It is remarkably silent when it is in operation, and it does not get alarmingly hot when used for an extended period.
The only downside of the Minix Neo U1 is the bulky antenna and price. Unlike most streaming devices that come with a WIFI antenna built within the device, the Minix Neo U1 comes with an external antenna. While this may not be a deal-breaker, it is not something everyone will want to deal with. The device is also a bit pricey compared to others within its spec range – though the 16GB internal storage, multiple ports, 4K and HD support, and 60 FPS video support make it an outstanding device.
